Mt Vernon and a Baseball Game

Shawn, Iva and I headed to Mt Vernon. I had never been there before and (sad to admit it) didn't really realize where we were going. I just knew it was a famous place. We hesitated about going, but boy am I so glad we went. I loved it and had a great time.

Iva was asleep when we got there and was sleeping till a lady made me feel guilty her neck was so bent. I knew I shouldn't have messed with a sleeping baby :)

We got there at 12:55 and tried to race to the wheat grinding demonstration at 1:00, but my pregnant waddle wasn't fast enough. Luckily, Oreo was still hanging around and the nice lady let Iva pet him. Iva did touch him, but quickly pulled back her hand and only did it once.

This quote screamed Papa Rodger to me. I don't know how many times I heard "you're burning daylight" growing up.

The pioneer farm and slave cabins.

Washington's Tomb.

Waiting in line to tour the mansion. Iva was happy no strollers were allowed on the tour.

Inside the first room of the mansion. I took this picture before I knew you weren't supposed to take pictures.

After we toured the mansion, we ate the best grilled chicken sandwich ever. I don't know if it was so good because I was starving, pregnant or just that good. After our late lunch/ early dinner, we headed back to Wilmington.

We got home with enough time to take a quick 30 minute power nap and then head out the door to go to the Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball game.

Kate was part of organizing the BYU Alumni event. The baseball game was LONG. No one scored until the 11th inning. The away team scored at the top of the inning and somehow the Blue Rocks managed to score two runs in the bottom to win the game.

We waited till the game was over to see the monkeys riding dogs herd sheep and the fireworks show. Iva was pretty impressed my the dogs and monkeys. And loved the fireworks show.

It is hard to see, but those are definitely monkeys riding dogs. (And I hope everyone has the baby monkey riding on a pig song stuck in their head now.)

Now we are home tucked in bed and looking forward to a quiet day at church tomorrow.
