Photo Dump: Henry

We love our little Henry. He had a little bit of a rough few first days. He always seemed hungry, only wanted to be held, and was a little fussy. Since then, he has become a lot more content. He is happy to swing, lay on his blanket, and be held. He is more awake in the morning and then again around dinner time- besides that he is usually sleeping. And he is pretty cute while he sleeps.

The Grand Arizona Resort and Spa

Papa planned a little getaway at a resort in Phoenix/ Scottsdale at a water park. We were so excited to go and play!

We packed up and started to head to the resort. I got the distinct feeling (accompanied by contractions) that I needed to stay home and have a baby and let Iva and Charlie have a little trip with Papa and Boppa. So we turned around and they dropped me off at home.

They made it to the resort... Swam, ate, played, and had fun.

Meanwhile, I stayed home and made Shawn come home early from his research fellowship. We went and walked the mall, went to Walgreens so Shawn could have his TB test read, walked stairs, went and saw Jurassic World all trying to get my contractions to speed up, but they didn't.

Shawn and I enjoyed our time together before baby came, but did miss the little ones. The next morning I woke up and headed to the water park. Iva and Charlie didn't seem to even care that I was there.  But we had a blast at the resort. The lazy river, wave pool, and everything else was a hit. We played all morning and then I headed home while Iva and Charlie had another little sleepover. I didn't get any pictures at the water park, but if I did they would have been full of smiles until it was time to leave.

They had a blast with Papa and Boppa and even though I missed them I am glad they got that alone time with them. And I am glad Shawn and I got some alone time together too before the new baby came.

"Papa and Boppa"

Iva has been talking about Boppa and Papa coming to visit for forever! I am pretty sure she has been talking about it everyday since the day they left last visit. Well, they came and she was not disappointed at all and is talking about when they will be back again. Charlie and Iva both miss them and check the guest room to see if they are there randomly throughout the day.

We had a great visit with them and we got so spoiled. (Papa's June Jubilee celebration continued in AZ.) We played, anxiously waited for baby, swam, partied, ate, cooked, went to the aquarium, cuddled and more.

Iva and Charlie got a new pool from Papa and Boppa and are in it everyday (and would stay in it all night if we let them.) Iva wanted to help Papa blow it up- I am not sure how much of a help she was.

We had several fun outings while they were here visiting. A favorite was definitely the trip to the aquarium. Iva and Charlie were both so excited to see the sharks and fish. They really love the ocean, octopus and sharks.

Older Siblings

Henry aka "Baby Honey" is definitely loved by his older siblings. Iva and Charlie both are interested in the baby. Iva likes to look at him and in a squeaky voice say how cute he is. Just the last day or so, she has started to want to hold him and loves to help burp him. Charlie, on the other hand, demands to hold baby in a whiny voice. It is always Charlie's turn to hold him. He is not a happy camper when it is time for me to nurse Henry and he can't hold him anymore.

Henry Dorsal Catmull

Little Baby #3 decided to make his grand entrance on June 23rd, 2015. He waited a lot longer than anyone thought he would and led to plans/ flights having to be changed, but we are so glad he is here now.

And for memory purposes here is his little birth story...

I woke up at 5:30 am and thought I might have had a pain, but wasn't sure. I laid in bed for a few minutes and realized that I was having contractions and they were definitely real. (I could feel them in my stomach, back, hips and legs.) I decided to take a bath and wait to wake Shawn up. Lucky for me (not), I got super sick and Shawn heard me in the bathroom. He says as soon as he heard me, he knew it was time and the real deal. He came in and we decided we should head to the hospital. We grabbed our hospital bags and made it to the hospital around 6:30 am.

Getting admitted to the hospital seemed to take forever and I don't think any of the nurses believed me when I said I was in labor. Shawn says next time I need to scream and wail. The admit nurse finally got around to checking me (7:30) and said oh yep, you are a six and staying. I am just glad that there were five other women in labor so the anesthesiologist was already there and got in to see me quickly. . (Rewind: the admit nurse was so grumpy! I think the most painful part was her blowing my vein and then having to try a second time. She poked and poked and poked my hand. She left my arm/hand bruised.)

They moved me into a labor and delivery room around 8:00. The anesthesiologist came and gave me an epidural pretty quickly and all pain was gone. I did get super itchy and sleepy. I could barely keep my eyes open. My blood pressure dropped a bit, but after medicine and being monitored it went back up. Around 9:30, my contractions were back in full force out of nowhere. I paged the nurse after I couldn't help, but have the urge to push. She came in quickly and said the baby was right there and no more pushing until the doctor got there. She tried to get my water to break, but it wasn't. She let Shawn see the membranes squish out during a contraction. He thought that was pretty cool. (Everyone knowing he was a medical student made this a different experience than the first two. He was much more involved and they explained everything to him in big words.)

Around 10:00, the doctor (Doctor Erickson) got there and got everything set up to break my water. He tried to break it and said my bag was made of steel and had to get different tools because it was not breaking. He broke the water at 10:12 and two pushes later baby was born at 10:13.

It was incredibly fast and easy. And amazing... Not knowing the gender of the baby was different and surprisingly not that hard to wait, but when baby came out and hearing Shawn say "it's a boy" first was pretty exciting and special. I immediately started to cry and was so thrilled. (I really thought it was a girl so it was a double surprise.)

Baby Boy spent the first few hours of his life as the baby referred to by a ?. We are happy to say he is no longer ?, but Henry Dorsal- named after Shawn's Grandpa Doc and Henry because I just really love that name and Henry B Eyring is one of my favorite apostles (if we are allowed to have favorites.)

Welcoming Henry Dorsal

These are the pictures Shawn took of Henry (with our good camera). It has taken me awhile to plug the camera into the computer and load them, but here they are...
