Iva has been successfully sleeping in a big girl bed for a couple of weeks now. Wahoo!
We tried to transition her awhile back, but she told us the bed was scary and too big. She never tried climbing out of her crib so we just let it go. Iva stayed in her crib making their room a little crowded with two cribs and a set of bunkbeds in it.
She quickly learned she could use Charlie's crib and the bunkbeds to climb out of her crib and became quite the escape artist. After getting "stuck" on the top bunk a couple of times, we decided it was time to move her to the big girl bed.
We had her help take her crib down and told her it was broken (it sort of is so it wasn't a complete lie). She cried and cried for a half hour or so. She was devastated.
After she settled down, we put her to bed and started watching the baby monitor. Within seconds, she was in Charlie's crib. Little Stinker. She eventually got tired and climbed out of the crib and back in her bed to sleep.
She does this every night now. She plays with Charlie until she is tired and then climbs out to sleep in her own bed. In the morning, Charlie wakes her up and she climbs back in to his crib to play until I get them up.
It has been a pretty smooth transition. Sure, I could probably do a better job and force her to stay in her bed (but really she isn't in mine so), but Shawn and I have witnessed some pretty sweet moments between her and Charlie and think it is good for them. The other night, Charlie fell asleep first. We watched Iva get her blanket and cover Charlie and then cuddle him. Seriously, anyone who knows Iva knows it is near to impossible to get cuddles from her and she willingly gave them to a sleeping Charlie.
She loves her Charlie. And loves sharing toys with him at bedtime. I don't love it as much- especially because I have to go in every night after they are asleep and clean off their beds.
Seriously, cuddling Towmater and sleeping in the crack does not look comfortable to me?!? Silly babies.
